The Collective Advocacy Voice of
Professionals in School Safety

Twenty-three years have passed since the massacre at Columbine High School shocked the nation and exposed the deficiencies in safety measures and training on campuses. Since that horrible day, targeted violence on school campuses have touched almost every community in the United States.

Currently, there is no all-encompassing school safety coalition that advocates for all aspects of school safety. The School Safety Policy Center {SSPC} will be the first nonprofit organization to bring school safety professionals and advocates to speak together collectively with one voice.

Principles: SSPC’s members and supporters are united in three principles:

  1. School safety must be a year-round priority – not only after tragedy strikes;
  2. School safety is multidisciplinary – schools, teachers, parents, law enforcement, security companies, and mental health professionals all have essential roles to play; and
  3. School safety requires accountability, and transparency.

Advocacy: SSPC will advocate for federal and state appropriations and
grants to improve school safety. It will also fight for common sense
legislation to provide parents, educators, and local law enforcement the tools they need to make their schools safer and will engage in educator outreach and sponsor public awareness campaigns.
